                                                                          Film Review

The film's depictions of protests highlight the importance of the Bill of Rights and the freedom to share one's opinions. African Americans have endured a great deal of oppression throughout history, and some forms of it persist now, such as institutional racism. Gentrification is a challenge that many cities encounter. In the movie, cities like Denver and San Francisco are used as examples. In the previous ten years, rent has increased significantly while home prices have doubled. It is said that gentrification preserves and enhances a neighborhood. However, it is a form of class warfare meant to drive out those unable to pay to remain in the targeted neighborhoods. In the movie, a group of citizens demonstrate against the gentrification of their cherished areas and make their voices known. demonstrating once more how the US government grants us permission to engage in these activities. One of the main points of this documentary is how the voices of the oppressed minority are being muted. Three people's lives are chronicled to demonstrate how many are attempting to run for public office. From running their campaign to seeking financing to canvassing neighborhoods for signatures on ballots, they did it all. One of their primary goals in running for office in Denver is to halt the gentrification of their cherished neighborhoods, which is forcing low-income residents to leave their houses. In order to have their voices heard, independent candidates battle to obtain their names on the ballot and finally become council members, as seen in the documentary. It demonstrates just how challenging it is to run district-level smaller campaigns. The movie illustrates how frequently candidates who are pitted against other well-known individuals have financial conflicts. While many other non-independent candidates have access to a variety of financial sources that assist them gain notoriety and public recognition, smaller independent candidates, such as those shown in the movie, must knock on doors in order for people to even be aware of their existence. Thus demonstrating how the government might be somewhat corrupt in that it has a tendency to favor those with more wealth or influence. Out of the three candidates in the movie, only one emerged victorious in the race to become a council member. This demonstrates how anyone can transform their neighborhood if they put in the necessary effort.
